Day 12 - We are Never Alone

Sept 23
Destination - Belorado
Distance - 24km
Hours of walking - Five including one coffee break and several wardrobe changes
Terrain - nice easy elevation changes, lots of time by the major highway
Weather - it was a cool one!
Nature - I think maybe cauliflower, but I'm not sure. And one dog that wanted to play fetch with pilgrims
Misadventure - feet are important

One day rest was not enough for Wendy's poor feet. She woke up knowing that she would not be able to walk. This caused a scurry of activity, with Super Dee coming to the rescue. Wendy and Dee found the bus station and for under two Euro, in 35 minutes were transported to Belorado.

Edith and I joined our friend Tracy for the walk today. Tracy is a ray of sunshine and made the day so enjoyable. She is on her journey and we have had some wonderful moments together. She is so positive and optimistic. A joy to be around - which was delightful as I was in a cloudy space without my two Camino girls and having to stop all the time to blow my nose.

When we arrived, we all had to find various accommodations. Wendy and Dee had some sister time in a hotel, and I found a private room in an Alburgue, as I didn't want all the pilgrims kept up all night with my coughing and nose blowing. So we all have our own little adventure tonight, but we are all close by in our hearts.

The terrain, although a little hillier than at home reminded me of the farm. Walking next to stubble fields on a gravel road transported me home. Funny how sights and sounds can bring up memories long forgotten. The crunch of gravel under my feet took me to moving cattle from the farm to the pasture. I thought of mom pulling up behind the herd and jumping in the car for a sandwich out of the red Tupperware container.

Almost like home

We walked on the gravel but along side a major highway. Occasionally vehicles, and very often semi drivers would honk their horns and wave at us. The support from the local people along our pilgrimage is phenomenal.

Belorado is a cute little town and has been very receptive to us pilgrims.

Food always tastes so good after a day of walking

It was another raw emotional day today. We join together in tears and laughter. We always seem to be able to recap the day and turn the darkness into light. The support we share with our Camino family, each other and the support we get from home has made us all so aware that we are not in this journey, nor the other journeys of our lives alone. In your busy day lives, don't forget to reach out and share your support - it means the world.

My message from Haley today reminding me of my team in my heart. Thanks Haley!

Cheer of the day from Wendy - Cheers to my caring and special sister Dee... Who gave up her day on the Camino to help me find my 'WAY'! Thank you so much - you always put others before yourself and I admire that so much for that! You are the wind beneath my wings. I am so lucky to have a sister like you and to be sharing this memorable journey together. I love you!

(I second that! Dee, I can't imagine being here without you - thanks for letting me tag along on your trip - you are inspirational to me and you have taken such care of me. I love you!)

PS- I got Wendy's cheer wrong yesterday - it was having a picnic in our hotel room.

  2. I third it Dee is there always for someone in her life. She is an amazing friend and intuitive to someone's needs sometimes before they realize. Every step if your journey happens for a reason and this change for one day brought out positive feelings. The 3 of you are doing awesome!
